About Me

I’m Shelley Moxley, an American cell and molecular biologist by training, although for as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to the intersection of science, art, and the natural world. I love existing in this space where observation and narrative are one and the same, and where the common goal is to distill down what it means to be alive.

My nature writing has been recognized by Panorama: The Journal of Travel, Place, and Nature and was longlisted for the Anthology Nature Writing Competition (2025). My photography has earned a Bronze award in the 2025 Epson International Pano Awards. Additional distinctions include preselection in the 2025 Nature Photography Contest, nominations and awards from ExposureOne (including the One Shot Photo Contest, People's Vote Awards, and Photographer of the Year), and a nomination in the 20th Annual Black & White Spider Awards.

I am currently based in Paris, and when not in the lab, I continue to explore the intersections between photograph and phrase, species and story, and lens and life.

About The Site

This website is the quiet beginning of a broader project, one that’s still a work in progress. It’s a place to notice, reflect, and bear witness, rather than to instruct or catalogue. You won’t find guides or checklists here; instead, I share postcards from the natural world as an invitation to contemplate, care, and remain curious.

Through photography and writing, I hope to spark moments of wonder and attention to the beautiful, strange, and fragile creatures and ecosystems around us. In time, I hope this work will grow into shared experiences and opportunities for others to slow down, observe, and translate their encounters with the natural world into story, image, or reflection.
